- Still to be announced: the exact day, the design, the sizes and the mintage. We do not guess them.
- GST-exempt in Singapore: IRAS lists the “Australia Kangaroo Nugget” among the gold coins that qualify as Investment Precious Metals (IPM), so the gold coin is exempt from GST.

- Launch timing: new Perth Mint coins go on sale from 8.30am Western Australian time, which is also 8.30am in Singapore.
The Kangaroo 2027 is the next annual gold bullion coin from The Perth Mint, and Singapore dealers already stock earlier years of the coin. Before you pre-order, it is worth separating the facts the mint has published from the guesses that circulate before every launch.
This guide covers the release date, the details that are still missing, how the GST exemption for IPM works, and what you pay for a Kangaroo in Singapore today according to our Kangaroo gold coin price comparison.
When Is the Kangaroo 2027 Released?
On 5 October 2026, the Perth Mint upcoming bullion coin releases page listed the “Australian Kangaroo 2027 Bullion Coin Series” with the release date “November 2026 (exact date TBC)”.
Here is what else the mint says on that page:
- new coins are released from 8.30am AWST, and Western Australia shares Singapore’s time zone (UTC+8),
- dates are subject to change, and the schedule is “only a guide”,
- not all sizes for each series will be available at launch.
Will Singapore dealers have it on launch day? Not necessarily. Local dealers need to receive stock from Perth first, so expect a short gap between the global launch and coins on the counter.

What Is Known and What Is Not
| Detail | Status on 5 October 2026 | What we know |
|---|---|---|
| Release month | Confirmed | November 2026 |
| Exact day | Not announced | “TBC” |
| Design | Not announced | Gold coins get a new kangaroo every year, except the 1 kilo coin |
| Sizes and metals | Not announced | 2026: gold, silver and platinum |
| Mintage | Not announced | 2026 1 oz gold: unlimited |
| Purity | Not announced for 2027 | 2026 gold: 99.99% |
Why does the mintage matter? A limited mintage can support a collector premium, while an unlimited one keeps the coin close to its gold value. For the 2026 1 oz gold coin the mint lists the maximum mintage as unlimited, which is what most investors want from a bullion coin.
The 2026 Kangaroo: What to Expect From 2027
The Perth Mint lists these specifications for the 2026 1 oz gold coin:
| Specification | Kangaroo 2026, 1 oz gold |
|---|---|
| Gold content | 1.000 troy oz |
| Fineness | 99.99% |
| Minimum gross weight | 31.107 g |
| Maximum diameter | 32.60 mm |
| Face value | A$100 |
| Maximum mintage | Unlimited |
| Obverse | Dan Thorne effigy of King Charles III |
| Security feature | Micro-laser engraved letter on the reverse |
The 2026 reverse shows two kangaroos leaping across water and a “40” privy mark for the 40th anniversary of the Australian Nugget. Whether the 2027 coin keeps the same weight, diameter and purity will only be certain once the mint publishes its specification.
A short history of the Nugget and Kangaroo
The Perth Mint traces the programme back to 8 August 1985, when Australia approved an ounce-denominated gold coin for international markets. The first Nugget proof coin appeared in late 1986. In 1989 the kangaroo replaced the nugget designs, first in a version by Stuart Devlin. That is why Singapore dealers still list the coin as “Kangaroo Nugget” or simply “Nugget”.
“For four decades, the Australian Precious Metals Coin Program has stood as a hallmark of excellence in the Australian precious metals industry.”
Neil Vance, General Manager Minted Products, The Perth Mint, article “40th anniversary kangaroo bullion”, 20 October 2025

Is the Kangaroo GST-Exempt in Singapore?
Yes, for the gold and silver coins. According to the IRAS guide on the exemption of Investment Precious Metals:
- the import and local supply of IPM have been exempt from GST since 1 October 2012,
- to qualify, gold must be at least 99.5% pure, silver at least 99.9% and platinum at least 99%,
- qualifying coins are prescribed in the GST Act, and the gold list includes the “Australia Kangaroo Nugget”,
- the silver list includes the “Australia Kangaroo”,
- proof, numismatic and collector versions are excluded.
What about the platinum Kangaroo? The platinum list in the IRAS guide does not include it, so ask the dealer how GST is applied before you buy. And if you choose a special collector version of the 2027 coin, the exemption may not apply either.
