How we calculate the palladium price per gram

We take the spot price of one troy ounce of palladium (31.1035 g) in Singapore dollars and divide it by the weight of the ounce. That gives the price of 1 gram of pure palladium. For lower finenesses we multiply by the metal content: 500 fineness means 50% palladium.

This is the value of the metal alone. A buyer will usually pay you less, and bars and coins in shops cost more, because the dealer premium and minting cost are added on top.

What is palladium used for?

Palladium is mainly an industrial metal: most demand comes from catalytic converters in petrol cars. The largest producers are Russia and South Africa. Jewellery uses 500 or 950 fineness, and investment bars and coins are 999.5.
