History of the New Zealand Mint

The New Zealand Mint is a privately owned mint in Auckland, established in 1967. For more than five decades it has made bars, medals and coins from high-purity precious metals.

The New Zealand Mint is not the country's official mint and does not strike New Zealand's circulating coins, which are made by overseas mints. Instead it produces coins for other issuers in the Pacific, including Niue, Fiji and the Cook Islands.

The New Zealand Mint today

New Zealand Mint products attract buyers from around the world. The mint is known for original designs that draw on Pacific history as well as modern pop culture. Its collector pieces are made with close attention to detail, have distinctive designs and often come in short, limited runs, which can support their value on the secondary market.

The New Zealand Mint range includes coins and figurines from series such as:

Collector products are made of gold and silver, and some carry an added colour finish.

The New Zealand Mint also sells bullion coins. The range has included:

The coins weigh one ounce each. The mint also supplies 1 oz platinum bars of 999.5 fineness.
