How we rank the coins

For each coin we take the cheapest current offer from the dealers we track. Coins are compared within one weight. The premium is what you pay above the value of the silver at the current spot price.

What to check before you buy

Premiums are higher than on gold

Minting, dealer margin and, in many markets, sales tax make up a large share of the price of a cheap silver ounce. That is why the spread between dealers is often wider than for gold.

Tubes and monster boxes

Coins bought in tubes or boxes usually cost less per ounce than single coins. Compare the price per ounce, not the total.

Shipping

Silver is heavy, and shipping can change the order of the ranking. Where dealers list shipping, we use the total price.

Frequently asked questions

Which silver coin is cheapest today?

We show it at the top of the page: the cheapest 1 oz coin and the dealer with the best offer. The order changes as dealer prices move.

Why do silver coins have such high premiums?

On top of the metal value you pay for minting, the dealer margin and sometimes tax. On a low-priced ounce of silver these costs weigh heavily.

Silver coins or silver bars?

Large bars usually carry a lower premium per ounce, while well-known coins are easier to sell in small amounts.
