About this product
A 1 gram 24K gold coin is the smallest gold coin most Indian jewellers and refiners sell as a standard item. It weighs 1 g, which is about 0.032 troy ounces (1 troy ounce is 31.1035 g). Depending on the brand, “24K” means a fineness of 995, 999 or 999.9 parts gold per thousand, so the purity printed on the coin or its card matters as much as the weight.
Every jeweller mints or sources its own design: a plain face, a floral pattern, Lakshmi, Ganesh or a refinery logo. Because there is no single “1 gram coin” sold everywhere, metalsradar compares coins of the same weight and purity across shops and lists their current prices side by side.
Why the price of a 1 g coin varies so much between shops
The listed price of a gold coin in India is built from three parts. One jeweller’s product page breaks it down like this:
- Metal value: 1 g of gold at that day’s rate for the stated purity.
- Making or minting charge: the seller’s cost of producing, packing and selling the coin.
- GST at 3%: charged on the total of metal value and making charge.
On a 1 g coin the metal value is small, so the making charge takes a larger share of the price than on bigger coins. In the offers we tracked, the price per gram of a 1 g coin was higher than the price per gram of a 10 g coin at the same shop. That is normal, not a mistake, and it is the main reason comparing 1 g coins is worth a minute: the gap between the cheapest and the most expensive offer can be wide in percentage terms. You can check the day’s metal value on our gold price per gram chart.
Who a 1 gram coin suits
A 1 g coin is easy to give and easy to store. Some families buy one for occasions such as Dhanteras, Akshaya Tritiya, a wedding or a child’s birth. Others use it as a first step to see how buying, storing and selling gold works before spending more. If your goal is simply to hold as much gold as possible for the money, a larger coin or bar usually costs less per gram.
What to check before you pay
Look for the fineness stamp (995, 999 or 999.9) and the weight on the coin or its sealed card. Keep the tax invoice and any certificate or assay card that comes with it. Some products carry a BIS hallmark; the BIS hallmarking FAQ explains that the six-digit HUID is unique to each hallmarked item.
Buyback and exchange terms are set by each seller and are not part of the price shown here. Read the written policy before you buy. Store the coin in its original packaging, away from moisture and hard objects that can scratch the soft 24K surface.
Frequently asked questions
How much gold is in a 1 gram 24K coin?
The coin contains 1 g of gold at the fineness stated by the brand, usually 999 or 999.9, and some brands sell 995. That is about 0.032 troy ounces.
Why does a 1 g coin cost more per gram than a 10 g coin?

Is GST included in the prices shown?
Indian jewellers show prices that include 3% GST and the making charge. Always confirm the final amount on the seller's checkout page.
Can I sell a 1 gram coin back?
Many sellers have a buyback or exchange policy, but the terms differ. Read the seller's written policy and keep the invoice and certificate.
