Specifications
About this product
A 1 gram 24K gold bar is a small rectangular piece of gold, usually sealed in a printed card that shows the weight, the fineness and often a serial number. It contains 1 g of gold, about 0.032 troy ounces. Indian jewellers and refiners sell 1 g bars at 999 fineness, with some brands at 995 or 999.9, and each seller uses its own card and markings.
Bar or coin at 1 gram?
With the same purity, a 1 g bar and a 1 g coin contain the same gold. The differences are practical:
- a bar in a sealed card is easy to identify and harder to damage,
- a coin often carries a design, which some buyers prefer for gifts,
- the making charge differs by seller, so either one can be cheaper on a given day.
Fewer shops sell 1 g bars than 1 g coins, so it is worth checking both product lists on metalsradar before you buy.
What makes up the price
The price of a gold bar in India includes the metal value at the day’s rate, the seller’s making or minting charge, and 3% GST. On a 1 g piece the making charge is a relatively large share of the total, which is why the price per gram is higher than for bigger bars. The IBJA publishes daily rates without GST and making charges; comparing a shop price with that rate shows how much the seller adds. You can also follow the gold price per gram.
Who a 1 g bar suits
A small bar suits buyers who want a gift or a first purchase in a form that is clearly “bullion” rather than a decorative coin. It is also useful for anyone who wants to buy gold in small, regular steps and keep each piece in a sealed card with its details.
Before and after you buy
- Check the weight, fineness and any serial number on the card against the invoice.
- Do not open the sealed card. A buyer may value an intact pack more easily.
- Keep the invoice with the bar.
- Read the seller’s buyback or exchange policy in writing before paying.
Store the bar flat in a dry place. The card protects the gold from scratches, so leave it in place.
Frequently asked questions
Is a 1 gram gold bar the same as a 1 gram coin?
At the same purity they contain the same gold. The bar usually comes in a sealed card; the coin often carries a design. Prices differ by seller.
What purity is a 1 g 24K gold bar?
Most are 999, with some brands at 995 or 999.9. The fineness is printed on the bar and its card.
Should I open the sealed card?
It is better not to. An intact card with its details is easier for a buyer to check later.
Why is the price per gram high on a 1 g bar?
The making charge is spread over only one gram, so it forms a bigger share of the price than on larger bars.
