About this product
A 10 gram silver coin at 999 fineness is the most affordable way to buy pure silver in coin form in India. It holds 10 g of silver, about 0.322 troy ounces. Indian jewellers and refiners each sell their own designs, from Lakshmi and Ganesh motifs to historical coin designs and refinery logos, so metalsradar compares 10 g coins of 999 purity side by side regardless of brand.
Why silver coin prices differ more than you might expect
Silver is far cheaper per gram than gold, so on a 10 g coin the making charge can be a large part of the total. The price is made up of:
- the value of 10 g of silver at the day’s rate,
- a minting and making charge set by the seller,
- GST at 3%.
Two coins of the same weight and purity can therefore be priced quite differently. In the offers we tracked, the price per gram of 10 g silver coins was higher than that of larger silver coins from the same seller. To see the bare metal value, check our silver price per gram chart.
Who buys 10 g silver coins
Many families give small silver coins at festivals, house-warmings and religious ceremonies, and some keep them for puja. A 10 g coin is also a low-cost way to start holding silver. If your aim is mainly to hold metal, larger coins or bars give you more silver for the same premium.
Reading the daily silver rate
The IBJA publishes the silver rate per kilogram, without GST and making charges. Divide it by 100 for the metal value of a 10 g coin; the shop price will be above that figure.
Checks and care
- Look for “999” on the coin and in the listing. Some silver items are sold at lower fineness.
- Keep the invoice and any certificate.
- Read the seller’s buyback or exchange terms before buying.
- Silver tarnishes in air. Keep the coin in its sealed pack or an airtight pouch, and do not polish it with abrasive cleaners.
