About this product
A 5 gram 24K gold bar holds 5 g of gold, about 0.161 troy ounces, and usually comes sealed in a card that states the weight, fineness and the maker’s details. Indian jewellers and refiners sell 5 g bars at 999 fineness, and some also offer 999.9 or 995 versions. metalsradar groups bars of the same weight and purity so you can compare the sellers’ current prices directly.
Why choose a bar at this size
At 5 g, buyers have a real choice between bars and coins, and both are widely available. A bar appeals to people who want plain bullion: a simple shape, clear markings and no decorative design. Coins at the same weight may carry a motif and a different making charge. Neither form contains more gold if the purity matches, so the decision usually comes down to price and preference.
How the price is built
- Metal value: 5 g at the day’s rate for the stated purity.
- Making or minting charge: the seller’s own figure, and the main reason prices differ.
- GST: 3% on the sum of the above.
Rates from the IBJA are quoted per 10 g and exclude GST and making charges. Half of that rate is the bare metal value of a 5 g bar, and the gap to the shop price is what you pay for making and tax. Our gold price chart helps you see where the rate stands compared with recent weeks.
999 versus 999.9
Some sellers offer 5 g bars at more than one fineness. The difference in gold content between 999 and 999.9 is small, but it is real, and it can show up in the price. Compare like with like: our lists separate offers by purity where the seller states it.
Checklist
- Confirm weight and fineness on the bar, the card and the invoice.
- Note any serial number and keep the card sealed.
- Keep the tax invoice; it records the GST charged.
- Read the buyback or exchange terms of the seller before you order.
Store the bar flat, dry and in its card. A bank locker or home safe makes sense once you hold several pieces.
Frequently asked questions

It depends on each seller's making charge on the day. Check both lists on metalsradar.
What does the price include?
Indian sellers list prices with the metal value, making charge and 3% GST included. Delivery may be extra.
