About this product

The 50 gram 24K gold coin is the largest standard coin offered by several Indian jewellers and refiners. It contains 50 g of gold, about 1.61 troy ounces, which makes it a substantial single purchase. Purity depends on the brand: 999 or 999.9 in most cases, 995 for some. Since every seller mints its own design, metalsradar compares 50 g coins of the same purity across shops.

Price structure at 50 g

The listed price is the sum of three parts:

  • the value of 50 g of gold at the day’s rate,
  • a making or minting charge,
  • GST at 3% on both.

The IBJA rate is quoted per 10 g and without GST or making charges, so five times that rate gives you the bare metal value of this coin. Anything the shop asks above that, after GST, is its premium. At 50 g even a small difference in that premium is a real sum, so comparing offers on the same day is worth the effort. Our gold price chart shows how the metal value has moved.

Coin or bar for a large purchase

At this weight many buyers also look at bars. With the same purity, a coin and a bar hold the same gold. The choice comes down to the making charge on the day, the packaging and certificate offered, and personal preference. A coin with a design is sometimes chosen for display or a family occasion; a bar is chosen purely for metal content.

Think about selling before you buy

A 50 g coin is one piece. If you later need only part of its value, you cannot sell a part. Some buyers therefore split the same budget into smaller coins or bars and accept a slightly higher premium. Others prefer one piece for its lower cost per gram. There is no single right answer; it depends on how you expect to use the gold.

Checks and storage

  • Match the fineness and weight on the coin, the pack and the invoice.
  • Keep the sealed packaging, certificate and invoice together.
  • Read the seller’s written buyback or exchange terms.
  • Arrange secure storage, such as a bank locker, before the coin arrives, and check what your insurance covers.

Frequently asked questions

How much gold is in a 50 gram coin in ounces?

50 g is about 1.61 troy ounces.

How do I work out the metal value of a 50 g coin?

Multiply the day's 10 g rate for that purity by five. The shop price adds making charges and 3% GST.

Is a 50 g coin a better buy than smaller coins?

It usually has a lower price per gram, but you cannot sell part of it. Smaller pieces cost a little more and are easier to sell in parts.

What purity are 50 g 24K coins in India?

Most are 999 or 999.9, and some brands use 995. Check the listing and the coin.
