First released in 1998, the Silver Britannia is a highly-regarded coin treasured for its beauty as much as its security. Silver Britannia Coins released before 2024 feature a portrait of the late Queen Elizabeth II on the obverse, while coins issued 2024 and onwards display a likeness of King Charles III.
On the reverse is an image of Lady Britannia, the female personification of Britain, standing strong against a powerful wind. The now iconic image first appeared on coins of Roman Emperor Hadrian, and was reimagined in 1987 by Philip Nathan for the original Gold Britannia bullion coin.
The Silver Britannia Coins incorporate four advanced security features that make them amongst the most secure coins in the world. A latent image changes from a padlock to Britannia’s infamous trident, while surface animation in the background projects the image of waves. Microtext is added for further protection with the Latin words ‘DECUS ET TUTAMEN’, which translates to ‘An ornament and a safeguard’.
Silver Britannia unique features:
- Sovereign coin backed by the British government
- Protected with four advanced security features
- Multiples of 25 are packaged in tubes and multiples of 500 come in monster boxes.
