Every year the question is the same: when does the new coin come out, what will it look like and is it worth waiting for? Some of those answers exist already, others do not.

In this guide we stick to what the mint has published, add current prices from our Kangaroo gold coin price comparison and explain the GST and CGT basics for Australian buyers. We also show how much more you pay for the smaller sizes.

When Is the Kangaroo 2027 Released?

The Perth Mint publishes its upcoming launches on the upcoming bullion coin releases page. On 5 October 2026, the 2027 Australian Bullion Program listed “Australian Kangaroo 2027 Bullion Coin Series” with the release date “November 2026 (exact date TBC)”.

Read the small print on that page too:

new coins are released from 8.30am AWST, which is 11.30am in Sydney and Melbourne on daylight saving time,

dates are subject to change, and the mint calls the schedule “only a guide”,

not all sizes will be available at launch, and the mint will advise when the rest are on sale,

to buy bullion in The Perth Mint Shop you need an in-store account registration.

Can you buy straight from the mint on launch day? Yes, The Perth Mint sells bullion coins online and in its Perth shop. Dealers around the country usually list the coin soon after, often as pre-orders until stock arrives.

Perth Mint 2027 bullion calendar

Series

Release date

Sizes published

Lunar Series III 2027 Year of the Goat

8 September 2026

Gold 10 oz to 1/20 oz, silver 1 kilo to 1/2 oz, platinum 1 oz

Kangaroo 2027

November 2026 (exact date TBC)

Not published

Kookaburra 2027

January 2027 (exact date TBC)

Silver 1 kilo, 10 oz, 1 oz

Koala 2027

May 2027 (exact date TBC)

Silver 1 kilo, 1 oz

Source: The Perth Mint, upcoming bullion coin releases, checked 5 October 2026.

The Lunar Goat is already out, and the Kookaburra and Koala follow in 2027. A 99.99% Kangaroo meets that test.

CGT: a gain when you sell gold can be a capital gain. If you held the coin for at least 12 months, you may be eligible for the CGT discount.

Does the A$100 face value matter for tax? No, the coin is valued by its gold content, which is worth far more than A$100.
