The Austrian Mint, known in German as Münze Österreich, is the official mint of the Republic of Austria and the longest continuously operating mint in Europe. Based in Vienna, it is a wholly owned subsidiary of the Oesterreichische Nationalbank (OeNB)—Austria’s central bank. With centuries of heritage and a reputation for precision, it remains a top choice among global investors, including those in the UAE.
Internationally acclaimed for its Vienna Philharmonic bullion coin series, the Austrian Mint also produces gold bars, commemorative coins, blanks for global minting, and Austria’s Euro-denominated circulation coinage.
Austrian Mint History: Over 800 Years of Minting Excellence
The roots of the Austrian Mint stretch back to 1397, when minting first began in Vienna’s Wollzeile district. By 1752, minting operations moved to the Winter Palace of Prince Eugene, and later in 1834, Emperor Franz I established a new, purpose-built mint—the same site where the Austrian Mint operates today.
In the 20th century, the mint adapted through political and monetary changes—from producing Austro-Hungarian coinage, German Reichsmarks during World War II, and Austrian Schillings until the Euro was adopted in 2002.
In 1989, the Vienna State Mint became Münze Österreich AG, a public company owned by Austria’s central bank. To commemorate this transformation, it launched its now-iconic product: the Vienna Philharmonic gold coin.
Vienna Philharmonic Bullion Coins: Cultural Heritage in Pure Gold, Silver & Platinum
The Vienna Philharmonic coin series is the Austrian Mint’s flagship offering and one of the world’s most widely recognized bullion coins—making it especially appealing to investors in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, and across the UAE.
